On Sunday the 8th March Dance and Cheer 49 were invited to take a group of cheerleaders to Move It! held at Kensington Olympia-Earls Court. Woldingham Show

Written by Kat Jessup

This year, Woldingham School performed their dance display on Friday 7th March, with the theme of ‘Searching for Clues’.   Intertwined with this theme, a story was told where the traditional characters of Cluedo were transformed into corresponding dance characters, all under suspicion of having killed ‘Miss Body’.  Tania Tse starred as MC Mustard, Kathryn Blacker as Miss Body, Flick Bartlett as Sister Green, Lynnette Edusei as Miss Rouge, Felicity Carr as Princess Plum, Jade Lidiard as Miss Off White and Kathryn Jessup as Granny Peacock.

The show started dramatically with a mesh screen rising to reveal a dance to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, and then the plot began.  With acting scenes and comedy, the show provided all round entertainment.   The ‘pas de deux’ was an exciting highlight, involving five boys playing the police officers to solve the mystery.  This featured many impressive lifts and a fantastic dance solo by Dani.

Many thanks go to the boys for stepping in to help with the show.  All that was left was to decide who had committed the crime…  Was it Granny Peacock, MC Mustard or every character combined?  No one knows!  The dance display was a huge success and was enjoyed by the whole school.  We would like to thank Emma, Zoe and Sian for all the hard work they put in for making such a memorable production.

Some of which were a street dance style demonstrating the intense holds of baby frezzes and high energy dance moves, others being cheer routines, with complex stunts and brilliant tumbling. Overall a fantastic evening enjoyed by all, lets hope theres more to come.

Bromley Report

Written by Mike Smith

On Friday 23rd of January 2009 four different schools all in the Bromley area came to together to display their different performances they had been working on. Four different teachers had been working in the four schools for a ten week period. The priory school coached by Rick, Coopers School coached by Karen, Charles Darwin school coached by Louise and Darrick wood School coached by myself. The four schools all looked great and turned up in their different kits. There was a good turnout of parents and friends to show their support and give an audience.

Each school got the chance to run their routine twice. The four groups all supported each other while they were on the mats and there was a lot of variety in each schools routine. Looking at what the the schools had achieved over the time they had was really impressive and I thought it was brilliant for them to come together and be a part of a team for the evening!

Well done to all the girls for putting in the hard work over the weeks, it showed.

The Boswells Cheerleaders' Performance At The SSAT National Conference

I am writing this article having just had the pleasure of reading a letter sent to me by a local secondary headteacher. In it he writes how proud he was to see representatives from another Essex school performing so wonderfully at the opening of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust conference in Birmingham at the end of November. I am delighted to tell you that the students whose polished and dynamic performance made such an impression on an international audience of headteachers and dignitaries were from The Boswells School. Our cheerleaders have performed at an astonishingly high level since their formation two years ago and to be selected to open such a prestigious conference is testimony to their dedication and excellence and reflects great credit upon our whole community. I would like to congratulate them on being such wonderful ambassadors for the school.

Boswells School Cheerleaders

The Boswells Cheerleaders were one of only six student performance places available and the selection process was rigorous, including a visit from three SSAT assessors during the last week of the Summer term. Excitingly the students’ performance can be viewed following the link:

Brentford Showcase Review

Written by Hayley Chapman

Dance and cheer 49’s celebration evening of cheerleading held at Brentford School for girls in December 08, was a great success. Not only was it enjoyed by the students participating but by the great turn out from friends and family. An evening allowing everybody to show off all they had learnt over the past term and with fourteen different schools participating a wide range of different styles and talents were demonstrated throughout the evening.

Both secondary and primary schools had been working extremely hard throughout the weeks alongside there teachers to create energetic and fun routines for friends and family to enjoy. From street dance based routines to the high flying stunts and cheer, the success of the evening demonstrated cheerleading in many different forms and was an excellent way of showing off all that has been learnt.
